In this study, Dr. Stagg shares his convition that the New Testament is concerned basically to proclaim the story of salvation. In truth, he says, the whole Bible is the story of what God has done for man's salvation, his mighty acts in which he is self-revealed and in which he sought to redeem man, reconciling man to himself and thus to his fellow-man. The New Testament is concerned with the culminating event in which the Word has become flesh to make his dwelling among and in us.
New Testament Theology attempts to trace out the meaning of this event. After an initial chapter on the nature and purpose of the Bible, it considers the plight of man or the doctrine of sin. From that point it turns to other traditional subjects of theological concern, such as Christ, salvation, the church, and the ordinances. The final chapter is devoted to eschatologicy, the goal which God is moving man and history. New Testament passages dealing with each topic are examined exegetically.
